What a fence actually costs.

Custom steel fencing doesn’t have one price — it has a range. Here’s where each line typically lands, and what pushes a project toward one end or the other.

Example pricing for planning. A firm quote follows a site walk. Adding a gate? See the Gate Budget Guide.

Reference

Price per linear foot

Installed, typical residential setting, standard access.

Fence typePer linear foot
Chain Link$12 – $20
Flat Top Steel$30 – $46
Ornamental Fencing$32 – $48
Pool Fencing$34 – $50
Pinch Point Steel$36 – $54
Commercial Security Fencing$45 – $70

Most Georgia projects run from around $2,000 for a short chain-link run to $20,000+ for a long commercial security perimeter. Material drives most of that swing; terrain adds labor before a single panel goes up.

The Real Breakdown

Why two “Ornamental Fencing” quotes can look nothing alike

01Height & gauge

A 6-foot run uses more steel than a 4-foot run of the same style. Heavier-gauge commercial steel costs more per foot — and lasts longer under impact.

02Finish

Duplex (galvanize + powder coat) costs more upfront than powder coat alone, which is why two identical-looking fences can price differently. See the Finish Guide.

03Ornamentation

Flat top is the fastest to fabricate. Pinch point takes more time per picket — the main reason it sits above flat top even at the same gauge.

04Access & terrain

A flat, open yard is the cheapest to build on. Slopes, roots, and tight side yards add hand labor before a panel goes up.

05Total footage

Longer runs spread mobilization and setup across more feet. A 500-foot commercial run typically prices more efficiently per foot than a 60-foot backyard.

In Practice

Same fence, same length, different site

Two example 150-foot ornamental runs — same product, same finish — priced apart by site conditions alone.

Flat, open yard
≈ $5,300

Standard access, no grading, straightforward post line — near the low end of the per-foot range.

Sloped, wooded lot
≈ $7,000

Root clearing, stepped panels, limited equipment access — near the high end.

Illustrative examples. Actual pricing depends on your site.
